I am grateful for this journey

Growing up, felicia.com was a porn site . . . and today, it is a sustainability-focused Italian pasta brand! Go figure!

I remember sitting in the Computer Lab (yes, we had those growing up in the late 90s) and everyone typed their first names into the search bar, followed by “.com.”

It felt like waiting for a response from my magic 8 ball! Some were baseball stars; others were contemporary artists. I blushed yet was filled with curiosity to find out felicia.com was an age restricted porn site. Everyone surrounded my computer as I clicked the “Yes, I am over 18” button, and wow - this Felicia lady was unbelievably enthusiastic and flexible!

A few years after that computer lab experience, I bought the domain feliciaiyamu.com to avoid any future domain mix-ups (lol). Today, with the help of my team, that site is live, and I hope you will bookmark it as a way to always stay in touch, know what I’m working on, and collaborate.

Let me tell you about the origin of my name. I was named after my paternal grandmother, a happy, focused, pragmatic, and pure-hearted woman named Felicia. I share my middle name with my late mother - Jacqueline Ann Mckenzie - who grew up in St. Ann, Jamaica. My last name, Iyamu, means “the chosen one” (no pressure lol), originating from the Édo state in Nigeria.

I am who I am and will be because it is all already inside of me. You are who you are and will be because it is also already inside of you.

This is the middle of a long author journey I’ve been on. I love it so I do not mind walking the long road.

People always see endings or beginnings and think “Wow, she’s lucky.” To be honest, I’ve just been working very hard for decades. . .ask anyone who knows me intimately. Right now, I am at another ending and another beginning. I feel I am in a space with no time. It is the space of creation.
