Hereβs an unreleased poem: inspired by the ending of the Netflix television series The Sandman. Based on a DC Comics series, the show is thought-provoking and fantastical. I do not watch much television, but this show somehow always gets me writing because it is so fun to watch and brings out a thoughtful and playful spirit. Enjoy!
Sometimes I tire of the long lists of to-dos,
Of the hopes and dreams,
And the manifesting.
Even when I am resting,
I jump up in haste afraid to waste today.
Even when I am praying,
I wonder if God, or Allah, or the Fates
Can hear every single word, and thought,
And breath and doubt we are relaying.
The confluence of jubilance comes in like summer rain.
A pitter-patter and then a splatter on the metal tops
Of upside down souls of feet, grounding and connecting
To the infinite pulse of being we. You see,
The right side of wrong is turquoise,
And the upside of hope is sunflower yellow.
βThank you, thank you,β I shout into the wind.
βAmen and hallelujah,β I say with pressed hands.
I will always be your fellow human who loves the sand
Beneath my feet, the sea, and the horizon, where
Time does not exist and the mist becomes our ticket
To the start and the end of Life and Death;
The start and the end of everything.
We do not know when we expire; so longevity and pride aside,
I hope we ride into the night with our head held high and
An understanding that we left a beautiful mark with our stride
A legacy and (any definition of) family we can stand by,
And not a fear (please not a fear) to say goodbye.
Yes, time is on our side. But time, my dear friend, it flies.
